The organization of the 11th International BIM Awards Notice

1. IDTM International BIM Awards

The International BIM Awards, organized by the Institute of Digital Technology Management (IDTM), is a prestigious annual event in the global building digitalization field. To date, it has been successfully held for ten consecutive years. The Awards are an annual competition specifically designed to recognize outstanding achievements in the full-scenario application of BIM technology, aiming to publicly honor project teams, enterprises, and educational institutions that have demonstrated excellence in innovative BIM implementation, lifecycle management of construction projects, and intelligent building operations and maintenance.

The competition aims to encourage industry elites to continuously innovate for the global development of the construction industry and to provide a broad platform for talent cultivation and exchange, fostering the sharing of technical expertise in fields such as BIM, AI, and digital twins, and the promotion of sustainable development in the digital construction sector.

Over the past ten years, the IDTM have received over 4,500 entries from around the world, including China, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, and Norway, among others. More than 580 awards have been presented to various organizations, including the Hong Kong Housing Authority, Hong Kong Architectural Services Department, Hong Kong Water Supplies Department, Hong Kong China Light and Power, Kyung Hee University, Hanyang University, Hysan Development Company Limited, JM Corporation (Japan Management Corporation), Singapore Ministry of Health, Henderson Land Development, Balfour Beatty (USA), China Construction First Building Group, China Construction Third Building Group, China Construction Eighth Building Group, Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture, and Jilin University of Architecture, and many other government agencies, renowned architectural firms, and specialized educational institutions both at home and abroad.

2. Schedule of the competition

1) Registration period: August  18, 2026 - September 30, 2026 (12PM)

2) Submission period: August  18, 2026 - September 30, 2026 (12 PM)

3) Initial review period: October 12, 2026 - October 23, 2026

4) Final review period: November 1, 2026 - November 10, 2026

5) Award ceremony: December 2026

3. Participating units and personnel scope

Government departments at all levels in various countries and provinces, cities, districts and counties in China, as well as developers, design firms, construction companies, operation and maintenance companies, innovative businesses, research institutions, universities, and student teams that apply BIM are eligible to participate in the competition either individually or in teams of up to three members. Each project should be registered under its own name, and the following requirements should be met: each project team should have no more than 6 members, and each person can participate in multiple projects.

4. Categories and Scope of Entries

1) Based on the application and research areas of intelligent construction, the competition will be divided into six categories based on the application and research direction of intelligent construction: BIM Design Application Group, BIM Construction Application Group, Full Lifecycle Integrated Application Group, Belt and Road Special Group, Sustainable Development and Low-Carbon Digital Intelligence Group, and Institutional Innovation Group.

BIM Design Application Group

For projects centered on the implementation of BIM during the design phase—covering architectural, municipal, transportation, energy, and other types of engineering design solutions, performance simulations, energy-saving and low-carbon optimization, parametric modeling, and CIM-based urban planning and design—we emphasize BIM-driven forward design, multi-disciplinary collaboration, and innovative applications of AI-assisted design.

BIM Construction Application Group

BIM practices for the construction phase of various types of new projects—including civil buildings, municipal infrastructure, rail transit, water conservancy and energy projects, industrial plants, and more—focus on practical outcomes in the construction phase such as smart construction sites, construction simulation, progress, cost, quality, and safety management, prefabricated construction, robotic construction, and 5G+BIM-based site management.

Full Lifecycle Integrated  Application Group

The project’s BIM application covers at least two phases—design, construction, and operation & maintenance—emphasizing end-to-end data integration, a digital twin platform, and collaborative management throughout the entire project lifecycle. This includes urban CIM platforms, large-scale area development projects, and integrated digital management initiatives for large-scale complex buildings.

Belt and Road Special Group

Targeting global cross-border engineering and overseas infrastructure projects—including domestic enterprises’ overseas ventures and local construction projects abroad—this initiative will focus on evaluating achievements in cross-national collaborative BIM standards, multilingual data delivery, and the integrated application of green building practices overseas with local regulations.

Sustainable Development and Low-Carbon Digital Intelligence Group

We encourage innovation through the integration of AI and BIM dual-carbon technologies for projects related to carbon neutrality, green buildings, carbon accounting, zero-carbon campuses, renewable energy, low-carbon operations and maintenance, and digitalization of eco-cities.

Institutional Innovation Group

The participating entities are university faculty and student teams. Submissions fall into two categories: ① real engineering projects in which students have actively participated; ② research topics, graduation designs, and innovative experimental results using BIM technology. Teams may consist solely of teachers, solely of students, or a combination of both. We encourage submissions of theoretical and technological research, small-scale innovation prototypes, and AI-based architectural experimental models.

2) The theme of this competition is: AI Build New Horizons, Digital Intelligence Forges New Journey. Entries should focus on sustainable development and artificial intelligence technology, fully consider the function, low carbon, aesthetics, sustainability, and digital application of the building, and help based on the actual situation of the project.

3) Projects related to CIM technology, BIM technology, GIS technology, IoT technology, digital twin technology, artificial intelligence technology, building industrialization, building big data, sensing and intelligent perception technology, intelligent construction equipment and robots, 5G technology, virtual reality technology (AR, VR, MR), information management platforms, green building technology, smart construction sites, intelligent operation and maintenance, carbon neutrality and green energy technology, and other related content can be submitted as competition entries. We encourage cross-disciplinary innovation and technical integration, as well as practical engineering applications.

5. Evaluation Criteria

1) BIM modeling level (5%): accuracy, completeness, depth, and consistency of associated information in the model.

2) BIM application scale and stage (15%): the scale of the application (project size, business type) and the stages covered (application stages) by the enterprise/project.

3) BIM application standard system (15%): suitability, systematic nature, and effectiveness of the enterprise/project's BIM application standard system.

4) BIM results and value (30%): highlights of the enterprise/project's application results in the current stage, and the value of BIM demonstrated.

5) BIM innovation level (30%): innovative application of BIM, value innovation, and platform innovation. For example, in the process of intelligent construction management, the integration and application capabilities of new technologies such as artificial intelligence AI, green and low-carbon, real-model consistency, and process traceability are realized.

6) Completeness of submitted materials (5%).
